Olympics Arrive Early at École Lacombe Junior High

The staff and students at École Lacombe Jun-ior High School in Lacombe, AB have been demonstrating both their school pride as well as their national pride recently. The school's Leadership class, lead by Mrs. Penny Grattan, organized a fun-filled week of "Olympic" activi-ties. The week began with a "Red & White Day" where everyone was encouraged to wear our national colors proudly. The competitions began with a "fast" start with the grade 9 bob-sledding competition. Each class built their own four-person sleds. The classes were also judged on their costumes.

One group went with a Hawaiian theme while another went with a Star Wars theme. One class even had custom-made t-shirts with their team name emblazoned on the front. The competitions continued with bi-athlon (using towels, Frisbees and bean bags), curling (using straws and fruit loops), more bobsledding, and a mini-stick floor hockey contest. The week rounded off with a pep rally to celebrate our school's achievements to date and a talent show. The Leadership class did an amazing job, and our school had a ton of fun. It has defi-nitely helped to put our students and staff in the Olympic spirit!
